Outdoor Venues

Shoreline Ampitheater
I have been here once and fulfilled a dream. To see the Grateful Dead on their home turf. This "big top" venue is just outside of San Francisco in the middle of what is known today as Silicon Valley. Much of that cross-country trip was a daze but I can remember this day clearly. A bunch of kidz grouped at the end of the street in what is most likely a developed piece of land by now and awaited the opening of the doors for the show. Inside the show on a perfect early summer evening I heard my last ever Standing On The Moon (and every Jerry tune played). I also got to hear Guyuto monks chanting during Drumz->Space and then finally Jerry singing Lucy in the Sky...My last and most favorite Dead show.

E Center
This place no doubt lives up to its name depending on the concert. I have seen Phish here once so far - 2 more this upcoming 4th of July week as well as James Taylor and Marvin Hamlesch. This venue is actually quite nice but it is in the most ravaged sections of New Jersey. Hopefully it will attract businesses and thereby cleaning up the area. The sunsets over Philadelphia and the Delaware River are amazing.

Giants Stadium
This place has some serious history. The Grateful Dead started my concert going and it was here where it all began. Huge venue and unbelievable space to see vendors and acts of all kinds at the shows.
I remember a lot of the great opening acts back then like Sting twice, Little Feat, Edie Brickell and Traffic. Bruce Hornsby's band before he joined and more.

Air Force Bases
The Clifford Ball was held at the Plattsburg Air Force Base, The Great Went was held at the Limestone Air Force Base and the Oswego Weekend was held up there at the Base in Volney. These places are growing in popularity similar to the missle silos as houses nowadays. Crazy stuff. Always a great time and getting better organized each year. Hopefully more sanitary as well
.

Alpine Valley
On the way to this East Troy, Wisconsin venue, coming from Chicago, is a place called the Bong Recreational Center. I am not joking. This venue has one of the most dangerous "feels" to it. The incline of the lawn must be at least 50 degrees. Unbelievably steep. That is why I drank nothing but water and had pavilion seating for this show. A great show but a long haul to Deer Creek that night.
