Indoor Venues

Beacon Theater
This venue is my favorite indoor venue in the US. Fortunately it is much closer than Red Rocks. This room guarantees a great view from any seat and incredible sound. I even had the opportunity to sit on the stage during the earlier years of Phish. The venue is beautiful and attracts the Allman Brothers year after year for up to 14 nights of sold out shows. I have seen the Allmans there at least 3 or 4 times and try not to miss a great evening with them there.

Roseland Ballroom
This is in some ways, my backyard venue. When I house sit in the city, I live right across from this place. I've seen Widespread Panic, Beck, Luscious Jackson and Smash Mouth at this place. The place can get a little hot but the open downstairs area keeps things cool. The exposed brick on the side walls gives it a somewhat old-school feel to it. Fun times here.

Hammerstein Ballroom
This venue, a little smaller than Roseland is another place to see intimate shows with that old school NYC feel to it. At a Marilyn Manson concert, Iggy Pop literally ran into me. I have also seen Widespread Panic and String Cheese Incident there.

Irving Plaza
This place, located around the corner from an old workplace (Sky Advertising), is always a fun time perfectly placed for after show partying. Luscious Jackson, String Cheese Incident, Keller Williams and some others have graced this stage (with crazy red downstairs lounge) while I've been around.

Madison Square Garden
The mother of all indoor venues. This place is huge, and when its filled up, it gets crazy. Many Grateful Dead shows here as well as a slew of Phish shows, Billy Joel, CSN&Y, the Big East tournament in '00, and Barnum Baily Circus events of years long gone.

Carnegie Hall
New York has some of the greatest venues. I've only seen one show here, for the Tibet House Fund, but like most small venues here in the city, the place had really good sound and good views from all areas.

Boston Garden/Fleet Center
Ok, these are 2 different venues. The ol Garden was a crazy place. Only saw one Dead show there but a memorable one. The sound was terrible, the view was shady unless you were on the floor or up high and you were forced to sit (if you sat that is) on wooden chairs that were 50 years old. And the place was a maze. Good luck getting around with corridors that lead to nowhere. I kid you not. A classic venue if anything. Too bad they tore it down. Then again...As for the Fleet Center. It's alright.
