Rocky Mountain National Park

The Rockies were neat, but almost a letdown after all the fun we had in Yellowstone. The weather was just a bit nippy, but it didn't rain too hard while we were there, so we were happy.

Welcome to RMNPHere's Amy at the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park. This park is different in that it takes reservations for its campsites (Yellowstone is first come, first served). We had our reservations back in May or June for our August trip and just barely got in!

Emerald Lake

If you spend much time at all in RMNP, you really should go hiking as much as you can. Beautiful sights like Emerald Lake await you high up in the mountains. The trip up there will get you pretty winded though! We didn't spend too much time in the Rockies, so the trail to Emerald Lake was the only hiking trail we hiked on this trip. It is definitely worth the effort.

Nice off-road trail in RMNP

Take the rough trail that goes up the mountains to the visitor center if you get a chance. It wasn't difficult at all to navigate (my family used to tackle it in our motorhome!). But it's a lot of fun and gives you a small taste of off-roading! This picture was taken as we climbed up in our Chevrolet Blazer.

Rocky Mountain National Park campsite

Our home away from home for several days was here, in Glacier Basin campground. This campsite was excellent, as we were very close to the restrooms and the water spigots. We made s'mores here a couple nights and had a fire most nights.
