Yellowstone National Park

Yellowstone was a real treat when we visited this past summer. The weather was beautiful, we saw three moose (pics below!), and we absolutely loved it!

This wouldn't fit in a car

Now's as good a time as any to show how packed our Blazer was. This amount of stuff wouldn't fit in a car!

Coyote at Yellowstone campsite

Our first campsite in Yellowstone was very dusty, on the north side of the park. We arrived late in the day (early afternoon) and couldn't find a good campground with an open campsite. The second night there, we got a good campsite more in the middle of the park. We grilled steaks and had creamed peas one night and it attracted a visitor! A park ranger came by in a couple minutes and we told her about him. Nice doggie.

Here's a picture looking the other way towards our campsite. Our tent was a little too big for the pad, but other than that it was a geat campsite! Something to keep in mind if you ever travel to Yellowstone or Rocky Mountain National Parks is that you cannot leave food or cooking utensils out for any extended period of time. This makes for a lot of packing and unpacking all the time!

Two Moose!

We spent the better part of two and a half days looking for moose in Yellowstone. We went to the Moose exhibit, we looked at the literature, we drove up and down every likely road searching in vain for moose. When the coyote visited our camp and we met the park ranger, it turned into a huge advantage. We saw her again a day or two later and we asked her where moose had been seen at. She pointed us in a new direction to search and this is what we saw... along with a HUGE crowd of people! It's a mother and her 7-week-old baby (baby's to the right). We probably watched these moose for a good hour or so before someone in the crowd told us there was a bull moose further up the road...

Big daddy

Well, here's the coolest dude we met in Yellowstone. Seriously. Nothing bothered this guy. He sat in one spot for probably half a day. We watched him for almost two hours and he never even got up to stretch. Finally we left and started driving back to camp. Then we thought better of it and went back to watch the bull moose some more. We were really rewarded when he got up and walked around after ten or so minutes! This pic was taken soon after we arrived at this site.
