West trip!

South Dakota

South Dakota has always been one of my favorite states. When I was a kid, my parents used to travel to Colorado during the summer at least once every couple years or so. I tried to show my wife, Amy, all the sights I saw during those years on this trip.

Kevin the VikingThis is a picture from inside the Corn Palace in Mitchell, SD. The Corn Palace itself isn't very interesting (at least it isn't when you've seen it a half dozen times or so already), but this hat makes a good picture. Strange thing is, a friend of ours went out to Montana the same summer, stopped at the Corn Palace, and took an identical picture of themself in the same hat without realizing we had done the same thing!

Entrance to the Badlands

The next significant stop on our journey was at the Badlands. No, not the off-roading area in rural Indiana. The REAL Badlands. The ones they won't let you drive all over. It's a very beautiful area. It would be fun to drive all over them, but that would ruin them pretty quickly.

Black Hills campsite

The campground we stayed at our second night of the trip had this awesome campsite for us! I couldn't resist snapping this photo to remember the one night we got to stay here. It was kind of on top of a small hill. No electricity, and water was a short walk away. I forget what we ate that night.

Black Hills campsite

This was on our way out of South Dakota. I think this tunnel is on the Needles Highway. Very pretty scenery! We snapped this pic before heading through the tunnel in our 1998 Chevy Blazer.
