Our Engagement
David and I had been dating for about 13 months and had made our own tradition out of going to the Baltimore Inner Harbor for New Year's eve. I should explain - we had been talking about marriage for a long time. I think about four months into the relationship, we both knew we wanted to be together forever. We kept talking about it, and we had both agreed on being a little more financially stable before we got engaged. Neither one of us wanted to be engaged forever, we wanted to get engaged with intentions of actually having a wedding in the near future!
New Year's eve we showed up early as usual and walked around the Inner Harbor for hours. Like the first year we went, we really looked forward to the horse-drawn carriage through the city. We knew the carriage rides began approx. 6:00 PM. We kept walking around and checking back, 6:00 came and went and David kept saying "this really stinks, I really wanted to do that again this year!"
The next time we checked back the sign was out, we were third in line and excited! David had the ring in his pocket the whole day and I never knew it! He helped me into the carriage and switched the ring into his other pocket. We snuggled up under the velvet blanket and started down the road. We got about 1/4 mile down the road and he asked me what my New Year's resolutions were. I said "to stay healthy and be the best I can be to you, how about you?" He said "I want  to spend my life making you the happiest woman alive, will you marry me?" As I looked down, the ring was right in front of my face...it was gogeous! I was in shock...my memorable response was "oh my gosh, YOU'RE SHITTIN' ME!" He said "ok, I'll take it back" and I  said "no, of coarse I will!" and I started to cry. He said that he still wanted to get on his knee and ask me, so when we returned back to the harbor we headed down to a really pretty quiet spot on the opposite side of the harbor. He got down on his knee and asked me if I would be his wife and of coarse there was no way in hell I was going to say no! He told me that my dad was the only  person who knew about this, I was so shocked. He told me he had even asked my dad, which has always been very important to me. We had a great night; we were flying high and still haven't come down.
