everything is written in text, but you type in your commands of what you want to do, and try to solve the problems to get to the end of the story.

adrift uses text boxes and drop-down menus to help you create the game easily, and does all the technical programming itself (though you can write your own in places).
to play any adrift games, you need to download the "adrift runner", which can be found on the links page, along with the "adrift generator" (needed to write games) and an example of a good game.
