HAPPY ENDINGS / NEW BEGINNINGS
It was a silent fire station,
Horribly silent.
No conversation,
Just silence.
For Chief was in that house,
To make sure that all had fled.
But as the flames we tried to douse,
The roof collapsed upon his head.
“Do you think he's going to make it?”
As we prayed and prayed and prayed.
“You know, he took an awful hit,
And they couldn't reach him right away.”
“You've heard it from the doctors,”
As Frazier fought through misty eyes,
“But the LORD is always watching,
And he's got Sherman by his side.”
And then a phone call from the doctor ...
He'd awoken from his coma!!!
So we piled in a pumper,
And rushed to Eighth and Oklahoma.
We met the nurses at their station,
And found his room on level 5.
Then Chief asked a quiet question,
“Did everyone survive?”
“It was an amazing awesome blessing,”
As Sherman shared the news.
“And how is Fireman Preston?”
“Dan, I think that you're confused.”
“Paul Preston --- the young guy at our station,
He likes to play with Gus and Max,
You know --- our Beagle and Dalmatian?”
“Dan, I think you'd best relax.
We never hired Mr. Preston,
For you turned down his application.
And no dogs was your decision ---
You don't allow them at the station.”
“Well, call up Mr. Preston,
And tell that kid he's got a job,
Then drive me to the pet store,
So we can get a pair of dogs.”
