MY YFU EXPERIENCE |
|
|
Ok, Its about time i updated this site and added some more content. Since this page is about exchange experience, thats what i am going to talk about. (duh) Anyway, i had the oportunity to be a foreign exchange student with the Youth for Understanding from January to July, 2001. Looking back, ithose were the best 6 months of my life. I lived in el paso texas, which is a fairly large city on the border with Juarez, Mexico. el paso is a very beautiful place to be. its actually a desert area with lots of mountains. My host family can only be described as a gift from God. The Thompsons made me feel as much as home here as i did with my family back in Ghana. Steve an Carmilita, my mom and dad, were always there for me the whole time. i had two host siblings, Taylor,6 and Destiny, 5. We had lots of fun together playing, going to the movies, shopping, eating out, and well having more fun. It was also a great experience becausse of the other exchange students i met from all over the globe- Japan, Germany, Russia, China, France and Brazil. Don and Tonya Seale, our field Directors, were two greatest people in the world. I attended Montwood High School which was a few blocks from where i lived. GO RAMS!!. MHS had a student body of about 2000. Everyone wanted to know about Ghana and Africa, and it was a great chance to serve as Ambassador. I joined the track team, which was indeed the finest in the District. I only got to run once though, the 800, in the last trck meet of the season. that race still haunts me because i led the whole time except for THE LAST 50 metres, when 3 guys overtook me. Enough of that complaining. Our church, the Montwood Church of Christ, also had the nicest friendliest people. It was my pleasure to be part of this family too. They say time flies when you are having fun. This is partially true except for the fact that "flies" is an understatement. All too soon, my time was up and i had to say my goodbyes. However, the memories i acquired would always be winth me wherever i go, and so would my new family. |
