Chemistry Technology
Specialist Résumé
|
Background
My computer experience begins in 1981.
At this time, the Apple ][e and the Commodore 64 had not been introduced, the
IBM XT was new technology and the DEC PDP 11/70 workhorse took up an entire wall in any room
in which it resided. I was one of eight students allowed
access to high school computers that included Digital workstations and Apple ][+ computers.
My skill was recognized and soon led to a request by the town of Yarmouth, Maine
for me to consult on the best ways to integrate computers into the school
district and adult education curriculums. At Saint Olaf College, where I began
my collegiate experience, I was one of only fifteen freshman that had ever
been offered a position in the computer sciences department since the college
first started making computers available to students. My computer expertise has
continued to grow and expand to use computers as a powerful tool in completing
whatever assignments I am given.

Assisted continually changing goals of electroanalytical research group by assembling, maintaining, updating, and networking hardware and by installing, writing, upgrading and maintaining software to correspond with the specific needs of the group.
Hardware concerns included:
|
 |
Assembling entire computer systems and network structure from the
ground up with only available and scavenged pieces and no budget |
 |
Adapting newer computers to interact with older data-gathering
hardware |
 |
Creating analog-to-digital techniques to be able to apply
statistical fitting software to data collected on more sensitive analog
equipment |
 |
Maintaining current backups of data and software configurations
to minimize downtime |
|
|
Software concerns included:
|
|
 |
Maintaining
networks to maximize data sharing and minimize intrusion for outside
the group |
 |
Writing
software to
 |
simplify and eventually automate analog-to-digital
conversion |
 |
assist interpretation of computational results to
explain electrochemical data |
 |
convert data between various hardware/software set ups |
