WORLD TRACK AND FIELD GAMES
August 1 to 14

Lion Allan Oleskiw of the Lions Club of Sherwood Park, in his capacity as General Manager of the Food Services Department of the University of Alberta, invites the Lions of District 37B to participate in the Games by volunteering for services required at Lister Hall, one of the official residence for the athletes during the games.

Lion Allan has developed a schedule for volunteers of 3 shifts a day for each of the 14 days. The daily shifts are 5.30 AM to 2.00 PM, 10.00 AM to 6.00 PM, and 4.00PM to 12.30 PM. His plan requires 21 volunteers per shift for a total of 63 persons. Implementation of this plan would require a volunteer to coordinate and assign shifts for all volunteers. It could be compared to our participation in the Host Club's Dream Home.

What is in it for the Lions? Lion Allan, who was involved in a similar project when the Pan-Am Games were staged in Winnipeg, says that the volunteers there not only had the satisfaction of serving their community but an opportunity to get to know the athletes on a one to one basis. The participation of the Lions would provide good exposure not only in our community but elsewhere in the world -especially through the contacts the Lions would establish with the athletes.

Lion Allan will need to know who is going to participate by early February in order to work out the details.

For more information, please contact Lion Allan Oleskiw at [780] 492-4874 [work] or [780] 464-5671 [home]
