| FROM DISTRICT GOVERNOR LARRIE'S DESK | |
| Lion Pam and I hope you all had a good Christmas and New Years break. It doesn't seem possible but we are all entering the second half of the Lionistic year. We wish to express our appreciation to the hospitality shown us by the Lions of each of the five Clubs during our visits in December. We also appreciated the opportunity of inducting 5 new members into the family of Lionism. It was especially enjoyable getting together with these Lions just before Christmas. One of the highlights of our year will always be the evening of caroling by the Lions of Chipman lead by President Lion John Antoniuk. Unfortunately, this month I recommended to Lions Clubs International that Falher Lions Club be placed on Status Quo on January 1, 2001,it's not a happy way to begin the New Year. I had a very good meeting with President Lion Gilles Mencke on December 12 and we came to the conclusion that we should take this drastic step. Being on Status Quo gives the District and the remaining members of the Falher Lions Club 90 days to develop a strategy for rebuilding the Club or, if that effort proves to be unsuccessful, to cancel the Club's charter. Lets all work to ensure a positive outcome. At my visit to Fort Assiniboine, the Club, while very low in numbers, expressed a strong desire to work with District officers to rebuild their Club. Lets hope by the end of this Lionistic Year we will have some very positive results to report. We have two Club charter celebrations upcoming the Busby and District Lions Club's 20th Charter, January 23, and the Redwater Lions Club's 50th Charter on March 3. Lets make sure we all join with these clubs to help them celebrate these significant milestones. I am pleased to report that the Edmonton Chinese Lions Club and the Edmonton Filipino Lions Club are both in the process of establishing Leo Clubs. I want to thank both Clubs for their initiative. I also want to especially thank Lion Matt Sitar, our District's Leo Chairman, for the time and information he has provided to both Clubs. The District Convention Committee continues to develop a strong and entertaining program for our District 37B Convention, March 9/10, 2001 [see Convention Information in this issue]. As reported in the December B-Connected, the Theme is Leadership. Leadership in the Community, Leadership through Communication, Leadership through Cooperation. Quality Leadership and the motto for the Convention is Leaders In Office Need Skills. The Committee is doing its outmost to ensure, in accordance with International President Jean Behar's theme that you will be in for a 'QUALITY' experience. Let's show our support of the Committee and have a great attendance. | JANUARY and FEBRUARY January 16 Edmonton Westmount January 17 Barrhead January 18 Edmonton Host (noon) January 18 Edmonton Filipino (evening) January 19 Legal January 23 Busby (20th Charter) January 24 Boyle February 6 Manning February 7 High Level February 8 Fort Simpson [tentative] February 9 Fort Smith [tentative] February 14 Bon Accord February 20 Bruderheim Lions and Lioness [final official visit] To be scheduled Northgate Leos 2001 IS THE YEAR OF THE VOLUNTEER CONTENTS: Page 2 District Forum Page 3 World Track and Field Games, Mid-Winter Conference, and an important announcement about Lions Quest Canada in our District Page 4 Service Update and Secretaries Honour Roll Page 5 Did You Hear About Page 6 This & That Page 7 FYI, District 37B Convention Page 8 The Back Page |
