EPCOT 1. Talking Water Fountains - Some brooks babble, but at EPCOT the babbling is done by enchanted drinking fountains! You can find at least 3 drinking fountains that talk to you. (1) Face the Fountain of Nations (the fountain that plays music) with Spaceship Earth behind you. The talking water fountain is outside of Mouse Gear, on your left. (2) To the right of the magic / play fountain between World Showcase and Future World. (3) Behind Innovations West (halfway between Innovations West and Imaginations), near the restroom. While you are drinking the fountains say such things as "Save some water for the fish", "Try some lime with it", and make flushing sounds. 2. Spaceship Earth - Listen for the sound of birds as you walk past Spaceship Earth. Soon after EPCOT opened it was noticed that birds were making nests in signs and messes on the ground. To eliminate the problem, Disney installed hidden speakers with the recording of a bird in distress. This alerted other birds that there was danger and to not come around. But, never fear, no birds were harmed in the making of the recording! 3. Spaceship Earth - Realism abounds in this attraction. The hieroglyphics on the walls in Egypt are real, the Greek play being performed is Oedipus Rex by Sophocles, and the morse code on the telegraph is announcing that the spike to unite the transcontinential railroad has been driving into the ground. Notice the symbolism in that railroad tracks are visible outside the window of the telegraph office. 4. Innovations - It's bad enough that the water fountains talk, but you can also find a sassy talking trashcan in Future World, near the Electric Umbrella restaurant, next to Innoventions. 5. West of Innovations - To the west of Innovations, heading towards the Land, there is a marker which pinpoints the exact center of EPCOT. 6. The Land - In the Living with the Land ride, the mailbox address in the farm scene is "B. Jones 82". This is a reference to the park's opening in 1982. 7. Imagination - One of the laboratory doors has the name Dean Finder on the door. This is a punning reference to the Dreamfinder, the original host of the Imagination attraction. 8. Imagination - In the final scene, look for the hang-gliding Figment. You'll see that his "hang glider" is actually a piece of sheet music for "One Little Spark", the theme song you hear throughout the ride. 9. Imagination - On that same piece of sheet music as above, look for the silhouette on the right page. That's the Dreamcatcher, the Dream Finder's magical flying contraption from the original incarnation of the attraction! 10. Imagination - Did you ever stop to notice the beautiful fountain outside the Imagination pavilion? If you have, maybe you've observed that it's slightly out of the ordinary -- it's actually a *reverse* waterfall, with the water flowing up! Just watch it! 11. Mission Space - Look for the Horizons logo (the attraction that Mission: Space replaced) in the center of the rotating "gravity wheel" in the queue area. 12. Test Track - At the exit to Test Track you might see the test crash dummies. They look like statues, but they are really people in there dressed up.. If you see them don't tell anyone else in your party. Get your group to pose next them for a picture. They will come to life! 13. Test Track - The driver of the semi that almost hits your car is a cardboard figure of Lyndon B. Johnson. He is wearing a hat and sunglasses. 14. Test Track - The difference in temperature between the hot and cold rooms is exactly 100 degrees Fahrenehit. 15. Norway - When you get off of the Maelstrom ride at the Norway pavillion, you are escorted into a theater to watch a movie. Just before you walk in, there is a talking bench to the right of the theater doors. 16. American Adventure - The pictures on the walls inside American Adventure were all painted by various Disney artists. One picture in particular is an optical illusion. The picture hangs in the corner to the left as you first enter the rotunda. It is a picture of a B-17 bomber from World War II. In front of the picture is a grey strip of tile on the floor. If you stand on the gray tiles and walk back and forth, the plane seems to swivel to follow you. 17. Between France and Morocco - Notice that the pavement is painted a different color. The change in color is represents the Straits of Gibraltar waterway that divides Europe and Africa. |
