| I love to write ! |
| I live in Singapore. ( these are entirely personal views ) It is a vibrant, dynamic and exciting city which is constantly re-inventing itself. We live in a progressive society which espouses religious and racial tolerance, encourages meritocracy and abide by the rule of law, justice and fair play. This is a society born of strife and struggle. Many of us have seen our way of life progress from a desparate, fledgling state deprived of the ingredients for success, beset by hostile neighbours to our present position as one of the wealthiest countries in the world. Amazingly, all within our lifetime. This unusual situation has posed interesting problems. Some are wealthy but lack such bearings and grace. We are a highly literate society yet we read very little and speak quite atrocious English and Mandarin. And we have great difficulty taking We are a nation fraught with insecurity. We have who are inherently unstable societies by virtue of their governance and way of life. Singapore is peace-loving, an oasis of stability and decency. We are an open society which welcomes people who are victims of disgraceful blatant racial and religious discriminations. We know that in times of extremis, your lives have been put at risk. We recognize all non Singaporeans for their intrinsic worth and capacity to contribute to helping us build an even better society. Every time I return home from a trip abroad, the sight of the Singapore skyline, the ships speckling the harbours, the semblence of orderliness apparent even from the air tell me i am indeed home. To a civil society, ordered and progressive. In this special society, lone voices are writing from their souls. The flourishing of the arts is a sign of arrival of a better society. The web has allowed us to publish our works which publishers may never want because of sheer commercial concerns. |
