What's the largest dwarf city on the Disc? Its one of those places in Uberwald, right? Wrong! Its Ankh-Morpork. Dwarves, like the Irish, become even more dwarfish when away from their native lands, even when most were born and bred in Ankh-Morpork. They are short but strong, incredibly hardy, bad tempered and have no head for alcohol, which explains why they love it. They can be smart, artistic, accountants, wizards and lawyers, but are still likely to try to chop you off at the knees with a battle axe after one beer. Both sexes have beards and wear several layers of clothing, leather and chainmail predominating, and everyone is traditionally refered to as 'he'. Most of Dwarvan courting rituals centre around finding out if the other dwarf is of the opposite sex or not. In any dwarvan couple, which one is female is something you keep to yourself. Things are however changing in Ankh-Morpork, with some Dwarves wearing makeup and skirts (practical leather or chainmail of course) and openly advertising that they are infact, female. This does not go down well with many dwarvan traditionalists. |

Dwarvan names are typically a first and family name, and are things like: Cheery Littlebottom, Glod Glodsson, and Grabpot Thundergust. (Please note: these are character names, please do not use them, I'm sure you can think up better one's yourself). A possible exception to the rule is seen in the rise of the Dwarvan gentry, like Count Giamo Casanunda, the worlds second greatest lover (because the man at 2nd will try harder. The man at 1st probably doesn't need Casanunda's essessential sex aid: a stepladder). |
