So you've finally done it. Ancient Uncle The first thing you should do on arriving is to post your home in Lower Morpork. Use your imagination. Its a tiny, dingy, one-room bedsit. Who knows how long the old gaffer was dead there? How many mummyfied rats are under the bed? Now that $500 isn't going to last long, so you're going to want to either get a job, or get some training for one. There are plenty of tradesmen in the Street of Cunning Artificers who would most likely be willing to take an apprentice. You could also enter one of the Guilds for training, including the various priesthoods, and Unseen University. The advantage of entering a Guild is that you are provided with food and a place to sleep. The disadvantage is that whilst you are training you get a pitiful stipend to spend on other things. On the other hand as an apprentice you are liable to start earning a small amount of money straight away. The alternative is entering an unskilled job, like the City Watch or that of Effluent Redistrebution Technician or Garbologist. Or perhaps your starting skill might be such that it could earn you some money. Note: All those whos starting skills are mugging etc, please register with the Thieves Guild. Unregistered thieves, muggers, extortionists and other similars will be severely dealt with. Please also note that all Beggars must register with the Beggars Guild. Once you are earning a little money, you will probably want to outfit yourself in the manner of your trade, and perhaps even start up a small premises of your own, if such is applicable. You may also wish to do some exploring of our fine city and even visit one or two of the nightspots. The Mended Drum is recommended, but bring a helm if you plan on staying late. So, Welcome to the Discworld. If you have any further questions for queries, feel free to email a God or ask on the boards. And above all, have fun! |
