| [24] - Fr. Benedict Groeschel, CFR. Human loving is never totally disintersted. Sometimes, even a mother will love a child to fulfill her own need to be needed. Mixed motives always co-exist in human loves. That is normal and expected. Somehow the one who loves always gains from loving. The object of love always offers a motive to be loved other than itself. Lord, how often do I love others not for their
own sakes but because of something else – what I can get from them.
The same thing is also done to me. That is the imperfection of human loving.
Only You deserve to be loved for your own sake. When I expect others to
love me for my own sake, I forget that I am not you. |
