| [23] Love is really very hard to define. Some say it's basically using oneself for the good of another. It's the other-oriented, the altruistic kind, the only kind there is, so they claim. But actually love in its purest state is just presence, a total presence. And the opposite of love is absence. When you were not there when needed by others, that was not love. You do not show love when your mind and heart are far away even if you are bodily present to someone. But even if you are physically absent you can still be present to others in mind and heart. And that is the essence of love. Love conquers distance because by loving you become present to others wherever you are. Lord, I am often guilty of absence – absence to others and especially to you. When you called my name I could not say here I am. How could I answer, how could I say yes when I am not there at all? Let me be present to you. In my relationship with others let me be present to them. Let me truly love.
