I thought it was funny at the time, but that's because it wasn't until much later when I realized: I am a dirty hippe!
It came to me one summer evening outside the Zion Canyon Lodge when I stopped to rest after a 2 day canyoneering trip (It was a total shock to me).
As I sat with my friends, in what seemed to be the most convenient place, I noticed the faces on several of the passers by. Old couples in white polyester pants and floppy sun hats turned up their noses. They would look at each other as if to say, "Where did these dirty hippies come from?"
As I looked around at my peers I realized that despite the fact that the majority of us were upstanding members of the community, avid church goers and college graduates, to the innocent bystander we were just a bunch of dirty hippes.
