These three photos were publicity shots taken
from the pilot. Note the different poses within the same scene.
They were taken as set photos, not from the film itself. Below
them is the copy that came with one of the photos.

- Many of the early publicity
photos were of very high quality. They were posed rather than
taken from the film. The image of Johnny Lancer, at left, is
a classic, and was used on a poster - which many Lancer fans
had back in the 70s.
-
- Like many Lancer fans, I had
a copy ofthis poster. A picture taken at the same time, at far
left, came from inside a comic book.

- There is a set
of photos of Wayne Maunder, taken before they started shooting
the show, used as costume checks and publicity photos. One was
used as reference for an artist to create one of the Lancer comic
book covers.
-
- A Lancer fan pointed out that
Wayne was wearing his wedding ring during the shoot.

This is a section of a contact
sheet, a page of negatives made positive for quick and easy reference.
Many photos on these sheets are never printed up. Thiscontact
sheet is one of my favorite items in my Lancer collection.
-
- Wayne is posing as Scott in
this series of photos, tossing his hat and emoting for the camera.
This series was taken before the show had started filming, in
front of a barn to represent a Lancer ranch outbuilding, although
the set hadn't been built yet.
