(same place) ~~~ The First Time Justin... Justin
Timberlake laughed as his date whispered into his ear. She was a beautiful blond
by the name of Pamela Harbrooke and they had been going out, on and off for
four months. He and Nsync were attending a music award show and he clapped
along with the rest of the audience as a new presenter walked on stage. As
the presenter announced the nominees, he felt Pamela’s hand slide onto his
lap and she whispered again, “I want you.” He
looked at her and she arched a playful glance at him. Justin smirked; she was
an attractive woman after all. Yet at the edge of his mind he wondered if
this was all there was to his life. He looked around at the screaming fans,
the fellow performers and the beautiful models and wondered if his life was
completely shallow. He
jerked out of his reverie as he heard the winners for album of the year. He
grinned as they called out Nsync and all thoughts about shallowness left his
mind as he and his friends jumped up happily. This was what his life was
about; doing what he enjoyed which was creating music and being appreciated
for it. ** “So
then he told me that I had to lose ten pounds for the role. And I was like
there’s no way I’m ruining this figure by losing or gaining weight. And he
was like, then I guess you’re not right for this role.” “Oh
my God! That is so wrong.” “I
know. You know who got the part don’t you?” “I
have no idea.” “It
was my former friend Melanie Ringle. Can you believe the nerve?” “What
a bitch.” “I
know.” Justin
grimaced as he listened to Pamela and her friend Beth’s conversation. He
couldn’t believe how ridiculous they sounded. He
glanced around to see where the other guys were. They were all at the Award
shows after-party, to celebrate getting the album of the year award. Chris
and Joey were getting drinks at the bar. Lance was on his cell phone sitting
at a table beside them and JC was dancing with two cute girls on the dance
floor. As
he directed his attention back to the two girls, he realized that he and
Pamela were not going to work out. He liked pretty girls, there was no doubt
about that, but he was tired of her lack of conversation. She never had
anything interesting or intelligent to say. She
looked up from her tête-à-tête, noticing that he was listening to their
conversation, and gave him a heated look while gliding her tongue over her
lips provocatively; she was promising him through her body language that she
had a lot planned for him later that night. Well
she might not have anything interesting to say, he thought. But she sure did
a lot of interesting things to his body. Maybe he could deal with her for a
little longer. He gave her a roguish grin as she slid her hand up his arm. “Am
I interrupting?” Lance asked. He had finished his conversation and had come
up to Justin’s table. Justin
shook his head. “Nah.” Pamela
pouted at that remark and turned back to her conversation with Beth. “I
was just talking to Jac.” Jaclyn Peters was the group’s personal assistant.
“She has our plane tickets and our flight’s at eight-tomorrow morning. She
bought off all the first class seats, so no one will bother us.” Justin
nodded, feeling exhilarated. They were going home to start recording their
new album, and he was happy to start a new project. When
the other guys heard about the news they all decided to go back to the hotel
and get some rest. They all wanted to be alert for the next day. “Sorry
Pamela,” Justin whispered to her. “I’m going to have to bow out for tonight,” She
pouted again but noticed he wasn’t going to stay any longer. “Call me,” she
said softly. Justin
smiled. “Do you need a lift home?” She
looked at him steadily and sighed. “That’s all right. I’ll see you later.” Justin
walked away. He didn’t think that he and Pamela were going to see each other
for quite a while. *** Victoria... “Are
you sure business class is all right honey?” Victoria
Freightan rolled her eyes as she and her father made their way to the
departure gate in the JFK airport. “Dad
of course business class is all right. Economy class would have been fine
too. It’s just a seat on a plane.” “That’s
where you’re wrong Toria, but I can see it doesn’t matter to you anyway.” When
they got to the terminal Toria and her father seated themselves. “Out
of curiosity, how come you couldn’t get the first class seat for me?” He
scowled. “Apparently all the seats were taken but I don’t believe that,
because when I then inquired about the seats available in business class they
made it sound as if there weren’t many people there.” “Dad,
what exactly are you getting at?” “It
doesn’t make sense that first class would be full to the brim and business
class nearly empty.” “Dad?” “Yes,
Toria?” “Get
over it.” She grinned. He
grinned back. “I‘m over it already.” Toria
was glad that they had gotten the chance to see each other. After her father
and mother had divorced, her father had moved to New York and they had rarely
gotten a chance to be with each other. <<Now
boarding flight no. 32. Departure time, eight a.m.>> <<Now
boarding flight no. 32. Departure time, eight a.m.>> Toria
looked at her father with a soft smile. “I guess that’s me.” She picked up
her carry on as he got up. He turned to her and embraced her in a fierce hug.
He
kissed her forehead before she could turn away. “You be good kiddo.” “Of
course.” “Say
hi to your mother for me, okay?” “I
will. I’ll call you as soon as the plane lands.” He
hugged her again. “I love you.” “Me
too Dad.” And
with that she walked away and boarded the plane. She showed her ticket and
was seated by a window in the almost empty business class section. The only
people there was an old woman dozing and a man working on his laptop sitting
across from her. Fifteen
minutes later the plane began began its departure and Toria realized that it
was just the three of them in business class. Toria wondered why but then
shrugged it off. She wasn’t about to get paranoid like her father. She took
her CD player out of her bag and began to listen to music until she quietly
dozed off. *** In sync... “Could
you guys shut up? I’m trying to write here.” Justin scowled at Chris and Joey
who were horsing around on the plane. Justin was trying to finish up a song
he was writing for the album. He got even more annoyed when a pillow came
flying at his head and hit him square in the face. Joey
and Chris fell back on their seats roaring with laughter. “You
guys are such shits!” he said as he grabbed two pillows and chucked them
right at Chris and Joey’s laughing forms. What soon followed was a lot of
laughter and a flustered looking stewardess telling them to “quiet down”. Justin
grinned the guys had quieted down but they were far too hyper for the calm to
last long. He
got up and glanced into the business class section of the plane. Only three
people were seated there, two of which were sleeping and the fourth was
engrossed in his laptop. Justin realized that he could get a lot more work
done if he went there. He
told Jeff, one of the bodyguards, what he was going to do. Jeff nodded but
followed Justin to the other side. Justin knew better than to think that his
bodyguard would leave him alone. He
walked down the aisle and sat behind a sleeping girl. Jeff sat across from
him and stared out the airplane window, giving Justin the peace he wanted.
Justin closed his eyes liking the quiet around him. He could smell a soft
flowery scent that he could not quite distinguish. It must be the girl in
front of me, he thought. Justin
opened his eyes and looked at the page in front of him; ideas seemed to flow
instantly and he smiled as he began to write. Toria
woke up to a soft, melodic voice. She rubbed her eyes with her hand as she
tried to discern where the sound was coming from. She looked around her. The
old woman was still asleep and the businessman was still engrossed with his
laptop, so it wasn’t them. There was a new person though. He was big and brawny
and didn’t seem like the type of person who would sing so sweetly. Suddenly
she realized the voice was coming from behind her. She listened intently. The
voice was intensely male and the soft timbre of it caused her breath to lodge
in her throat. She desperately wanted to turn and find out who he was but she
didn’t dare. She
sat. Eyes closed and ears perked as she listened to him. Suddenly he
quietened and she heard a brushing like that of an eraser. He started again
but soon after stopped. He did this a couple times and Toria considered that
he might be some kind of lunatic. Unexpectedly
she heard him laugh an utterly cheery sound that made her smile and then he
spoke. “Jeff I got it! We can go back now.” Toria
realized that she had been right. He was a complete psycho. She turned her
head as she heard a deeper voice answer, “Alright, J.” She realized the guy
hadn’t been talking to himself but the brawny guy sitting at the other side
of the plane. She
sensed more than heard him get up from his seat with his other friend
following. She waited, her breath held as he passed her but all she caught a
glimpse of was blondish hair and a tall physique because “Jeff” moved
directly behind him. She
hoped he would come back soon, so that she would be able to get a better look
at him, but as the minutes went by she knew he wasn’t coming back. Toria
leaned back on her chair and began humming the song he was singing. One
line of the song kept sticking in her head, and she knew it was not one that
she would easily forget. “....
Girl to me you are remarkable...” |
