Message From a Star
plot
Irya, a being from Delta, the only planet in orbit around Alpha Centauri,
teleports himself to Earth and gives Space Patrol the information they
require to allow a Galasphere to travel at speeds faster light. Professor
Haggerty, however, believes that the Galasphere’s metal hull will collapse
under the strain of such high speeds. Raeburn dismisses Haggerty’s
concerns as jealousy and allows the trip to go ahead. After staying
on Delta for a short time, Dart and his crew decide to explore the entire
planet in the Galasphere, but soon discover that the delta unit, which
enables them to travel faster than light, is no longer operating.
Husky tells Dart that he needs metal to repair the damage, but Irya tells
them that there is no metal on Delta. The only similar material is
the horn of a lizard creature which lives on the planet. Dart uses
his gamma ray gun to kill the creature and Husky is able to fix the delta
unit.
