the Human Fish
plot
Raeburn sends the crew of Galasphere 347 to investigate the Magda Ocean
on Venus, where the Tula fish are evolving at an unusually high rate, developing
almost human physical characteristics, thus posing a serious threat to
the planet’s other inhabitants. There they discover an underwater barrier
made from polydon, a construction material which is being dumped into the
ocean. Realizing that the cosmic radiation emitted by the material
is the cause of the Tulas’ accelerated evolution, Dart plants depth charges
to destroy the barrier. The Tulas, however, disconnect them from the
detonator before Dart can set them off. Dart and his crew use sedatives
to render the fish unconscious before relaying the depth charges and successfully
destroying the polydon barrier.
