Husky Becomes Invisible
plot
Professor Haggerty discovers that the eggs of the Abas – birds native
to Mars – have a special protein in them which can cure the disease known
as the “floats”. Raeburn sends Dart and his crew to Mars to collect
some of the eggs. While they wait for the game warden at the forest
where the Abas live to return from patrol, Dart and Husky visit Professor
Zeffer at his laboratory. Zeffer has discovered that his new star
measuring device also has the ability to make objects disappear.
Husky accidentally activates the machine and is made invisible. When
Professor Zeffer tries to reverse the process, he discovers that living
beings cannot be made visible again by his machine. The game warden
returns and Dart goes with him to collect the eggs. After several
unsuccessful attempts by Dart to take one of the Aba’s eggs, Husky manages
to sneak them away safely. Back at Space Headquarters, Dart asks
Haggerty if he can help Husky. Haggerty tells him to take Husky back
to Zeffer’s laboratory, put him in a portable freezer in the star measuring
machine and turn the machine on and then off.
notes
Professor Zeffer’s machine would re-appear in the
Hairy Men of Mars.
The Abas are an endangered species; there are only twenty left on Mars.
