Time Stands Still
plot
The Venusian millionaire Tara is holding many priceless works of art,
including da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, in his palace on the Jovian moon Calisto.
Haggerty, meanwhile, has invented a watch which speeds up the wearer’s
reflexes sixty times. Dart learns that Tara leaves the palace doors
open for two minutes every day while he inspects his gold mines. Wearing
the watch, Dart enters the palace unnoticed and manages to remove all the
items Tara has stolen. Tara realizes what has happened and fires
rocket missiles after the Galasphere. However, the type of missiles
Tara is using are programmed to explode if they do not reach their target
within a certain amount of time, and Dart and his crew manage to keep
the Galasphere out of range of the explosions.
notes
Professor Haggerty’s “time watch” would later appear in Sands of Death.
