the Glowing Eggs of Titan
plot
Galasphere 347 develops a fault in its meeson unit and Dart and his
crew land on the Saturnian moon Titan in order to repair it. There
Husky discovers a luminous egg which he takes back to Earth with him.
Dart shows the egg to Raeburn, who realizes that it could provide a solution
to the electricity supply problem on Mars. He sends Dart back to
Titan to collect more eggs, along with the birds who lay them. While
Dart and Husky search Titan for the eggs, Slim, alone in the Galasphere,
hears a strange humming noise. He leaves the Galasphere to investigate,
but on his way back he slips and damages his oxygen supply; each time he
moves, he loses some of his oxygen. He discovers that the eggs are
being laid by dog-like creatures native to Titan. Dart and Husky
rescue Slim and take the dog-like creatures back to Space Headquarters.
notes
Dart names the luminous substance in the eggs “titanite”.
Slim leaves the following note in the Galasphere when he goes to investigate
the humming noise:
Capt Dart,
Heard extraordinary
noise. Decided
