Principles and code of practice for volunteers
To ensure that Dundee Independent Advocacy is able to work efficiently and effectively an advocate must understand the commitment and responsibility involved.
Confidentiality
The advocate must protect and maintain the confidentiality of all clients within the service. No outside contact should be made concerning your partner without their prior knowledge or consent.
Respect your partner's interests as if they were your own.
Enable your partner to act independently whenever possible.
Deal promptly and effficiently with your partner's requests without raising their expectations to an unrealistic level.
Maintain professional standards in your relationship with your partner. This means reliability,dependability and pride in your work.
Ensure you do not accept financial rewards from your partner.
As a volunteer you should-
Training
You will be expected to-
Attend an initial training course in advocacy skills.
Discuss casework with an advocacy worker as appropriate and when necessary. Any difficulties which you may have as a volunteer advocate must be discussed with an advocacy worker or line manager who are there to support you.
Attend ongoing training support and team meetings as required, seek advice and accept supervision from the advocacy worker.
