These are my own poems, written over a period of several years.

THE OAK:

A sad story of a mighty oak. The usual tale of tarmac taking precedence over trees.

RAIN:

The importance of rain. I wrote this during a very long wet spell.

THE CAR WORKER:

I once had a very boring job which I absolutely hated and I started thinking about other people with boring jobs and how they also might have wanted to do more but never had the opportunity.

SPIDER:

This is an attempt to pastiche D. H. Lawrence's poem "Snake" which I'd just read at the time I wrote this poem. I don't like spiders very much and I was trying to capture the same mood of horrified fascination that Lawrence described when he encountered the snake at his water trough.

SPIDER TWO:

This is a humorous poem about spiders. It's a bit of a laugh at myself.
