Richer living
for single Christians:
A Singles Survival Guide, by Diane Kingston
Is there
anyone out there?
- Find a way that suits you to find your
right partner. For ideas try books like "No sex
please were single" and "If Im so
Wonderful why am I still single?" (see the resources section of this guide).
- There are several Christian Dating or
Introduction agencies, and possibilities on the Internet
are growing. I think we need to forget the British
culture against this sort of way of finding a partner,
and to embrace them as our American brothers and sisters
have done. How else will you discover those potential
partners that you might otherwise never meet. A benefit
of meeting someone this way, rather than meeting someone
elsewhere socially, is that you both know that you are
looking for your right partner and not just socialising.
- If you are uncomfortable with
introduction or dating agencies, enlarge your network of
contacts. Some ways of doing this might be through
inter-church meetings, training days and Christian social
groups.
- Think about the characteristics of the
"right" person for your partner, and identify
areas which you might be able to develop into this
person, while still remaining true to yourself. The books
"Spirit Controlled Temperament" and
"Spirit Controlled Woman" (see the resources section of this guide) might be able to
help shed some light on this.
- Avoid trying to over-define the
qualities of the person who is right for you. First and
foremost, the relationship must work and feel right.
- Meditate on "Delight yourself in
the Lord and He will give you the desires of your
heart" (Psalm 37 v 4) and the verses around it. One
interpretation is that the more we trust and love our
Father God, he will fill our heart with His desires. An
alternative interpretation is that as we trust and love
Him, the more we desire what He wants for us. Consider
how you might respond.
- Consider the possibility that
Gods plan for you might be to remain single. If
this is the case you may need to come to terms with this
and determine to live a fulfilled life in Gods
service in that state if necessary. You might find a
trained counsellor a great help.
