Suggested reading

While I have tried to read all of these books, some are included on the recommendation of trusted friends.

If a book is out of print you might be able to find a friend who can lend it to you, or else through a second-hand book shop or book-seeking service. These occasionally advertise in Christain Magazines and Newspapers. An internet search for "out of print books" might show you some online services.

"No Sex Please We’re Single"
by Ian Stuart Gregory, published by Kingsway
Ideas on how to improve your chances of meeting someone right for you.

"Letters from a solo survivor" by Kathy Keay, published by Hodder & Stoughton
A personal account of the trials and hilarities of living solo in a world where marriage is seen as the norm. Work, home, sex, death, relationships and international events are all examined with humour and honesty.

"Joyfully Single in a Couple’s World" by Harold J. Sala, published by Horizon Books
Living joyfully, as opposed to surviving miserably, is the challenge facing most single Christians today. Dr Sala addresses real needs for real people in an applicable, biblical and clear approach.

"The Snare" by Lois Mowday, published by Navpress
Emotional and sexual entanglements look so inviting and can sneak up on you almost unexpectedly. The writer uses scriptural guidelines for establishing healthy relationships and as help to those wanting to avoid the snare or seeking to escape from its grasp.

"Complete as One" by Elizabeth-Ann Horsford, published by Hodder and Stoughton
This book asserts that singleness, whether temporary or more long term, is a privilege rather than a the problem many regard it to be, and that Christians can and should enjoy the freedom and responsibilities that the fulfilled single life brings.

"The Spirit Controlled Temperament" by Tim LaHaye, published by Kingsway
Insight on identifying your temperament, and how the Holy Spirit can help you manage the associated strengths and weaknesses.

"The Spirit Controlled Woman" by Beverley LaHaye, published by Kingsway
As above, but written for women, including managing relationships in a biblical manner according to the combination of temperaments

"Sex and the Single Person: dealing honestly with the need for intimacy" by Robert G. Demoss Jnr, published by Zondervan
This book clarifies the reality of living a chaste life with the fantasy provided by the entertainment media. DeMoss identifies six stages of the "Single Cycle" and offers four ways to "short-circuit" the negative aspects of the cycle and help singles understand sex and intimacy.

"Single Issues" by Steve Chilcraft et al, published by Church Pastoral Aid Society
Identifying areas that church leaders should be addressing in order to include the growing numbers of single Christians in the church family.

"God is a matchmaker" by Derek Prince, published by Kingsway
Written from personal experience, this book addresses questions such as "If it is God’s will for me to marry, how can I prepare myself for marriage?" and "How can I find the mate God has appointed for me?"

"One is Fun" by Delia Smith, published by Coronet Books
tasty meals for one, easy to prepare & using as few pans as possible so easy to wash up afterwards

"Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus" by John Gray, published by Thorsons
Aiming to improve communication between men and women by helping each to understand their differences in communication styles, emotional needs, and modes of behaviour. A useful and enlightening read

"Mars and Venus on a Date" by John Gray, published by Vermilion
John Gray helps the reader to understand the stages necessary for a relationship to grow, starting from the first tentative approaches. He also helps us realise how men and women each play different roles in a relationship, and suggests ways of keeping a relationship going through each of the stages. Also available on audio tape.

"If I’m so wonderful, why am I still single" by Susan Page, published by Grafton
A self-help guide for single people who are looking for someone with who to share their lives. It helps the reader identify the reasons they have difficulty finding love. (sadly out of print, but a tape version is available)
