Richer living
for single Christians:
A Singles Survival Guide, by Diane Kingston
Because you're worth it
A vase of fresh flowers can give your home a "lived in" and welcoming feel. Some, such as carnations and chrysanthemums, last longer than others. Others, like lilies and hyacinths, fill the house with their scent.
if you have favourite pictures then find somewhere to hang them where you can enjoy them often
if you enjoy music then you would probably appreciate a good music system to listen to your collection
You are worth cooking for. This is confirmed by Delia Smith in her excellent book "One is Fun". The introduction alone of this book was a boost to my morale. The recipes are delicious and are quick to prepare and clear up (using as few pans as possible).
Make your home more welcoming to yourself and to others by keeping a bowl of fresh fruit handy.
If you are in a rush dont skip a meal. Instead, keep a stock of freezer meals to zap in the microwave.
Eat out once in a while. Maybe take a book or find somewhere with a lovely view that you can just look at, or with good music
Look after yourself in all areas. You are created by God and Paul reminds us to honour God with our body: "Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honour God with your body" (1 Corinthians 6 verses 19 and 20). You need to make sure that you care for your nutrition, your health, your appearance, manage any stress, and talk to a trained counsellor when appropriate. Being well-groomed might help improve your effectiveness and attractiveness.
Look after your appearance, for your own sake. Why not try a new hair style? Men, if you have facial hair remember to keep it trimmed as not every woman is attracted to Father Christmas. Ladies, why not try a makeup makeover in a department store?
Avoid over-indulging or consoling yourself in excesses of food, chocolate or alcohol.
Find out what suits you by joining a workshop on colour, image and makeup. These are often run by local authorities as part of their adult education syllabus. Some relevant books are listed at the end of this book.
Go through your wardrobe and send to a charity shop or clothes agency any clothes that are too big or too small (sad but true!) or do nothing for you. Also discard anything that might be considered over-provocative to the opposite sex. It might help to have an honest friend with you when you do this! Make sure that whatever is left is clean and has had any repairs sorted out.
