Richer living
for single Christians:
A Singles Survival Guide, by Diane Kingston
Seize the
day
- If there is something you believe is
in line with Gods overall purpose for your life
(perhaps a nice holiday/career change/job move/house
move/pension/decorating/trip to the theatre) then do it.
Dont hold back Gods purposes for you and His
working through you because you are waiting for the right
partner to along, otherwise you could miss so many
opportunities
- Unless you are a super-hero you have a
limited amount of time that needs to be managed
effectively to achieve a balanced life. As a Christian
you need to prayerfully identify Gods priorities
for you in terms of:
- how you use the gifts He has given you
- allowing time for family and friends
- areas of Christian service
- time for rest, relaxation and recharging
- If you feel rushed, take time out to
prayerfully identify anything that you think needs to be
changed. Decide how best to manage your time less
stressfully. It might be to invest in a dishwasher, or
employ someone each week to iron, clean or garden for
you. This can be difficult to acknowledge but it may give
you more time to be with friends, and also provides a job
(however small) to someone else. You may decide to reduce
the number of commitments that you have. You are worth
it.
- If you are often asked to help out,
say "no" when you are busy. It is a myth that
single people have more time than marrieds, especially if
we have the responsibilities of earning a living and
running a home.
- If you are someone who fills every
possible moment with activity, try to build opportunities
for spontaneity into your diary. Perhaps now and then
keep a Saturday free to just "become". It might
be that you get asked along to something, especially when
people discover that you are free sometimes. Or it might
be a time when you can indulge yourself in a good book
and a nice bubble bath with candles, taking time to cook
your favourite meal, or a visit to somewhere youve
been meaning to go to for a long time. This might take
courage to do, and time to get used to enjoying it, but
it is a helpful way to stop feeling rushed.
- Do something different to usual.
Perhaps rearrange a room or (a bit more drastic) the
garden. Or take a different route to work, change your
weekly schedule, or try a different town or supermarket
for your shopping
