Cosplay Contest and Art Show
Information posted on forum by Ashfox:

On October 25th, Japanese Club will be having a Cosplay Contest and an Art Show in RM K132. Also in K132 are the forms to enter the events as well as copies of the rules and guidelines posted below. I'd like to note that even if you're not entering in either of the events, feel free to dress up and bring any art. You don't wanna be the only one looking normal do you? =3 I hope to see you all there! -Ash, El Presidente

[x]-Cosplay (Kosupure) Contest
Halloween is just around the corner! It's the time of year where you can dress up (or down) as much as you want. Show your fellow members just how kawaii or kowaii you can be by participating in our Cosplay Contest.

C.C. RULES AND GUIDELINES

  • You must be a paid member of DHS Japanese Club.
  • Your costume must be Japanese themed.
  • No original characters.
  • Your costume must be school appropriate. No drooping necklines, mini skirts, short shorts, or anything that can be deemed inappropriate.
  • No prop weapons are allowed unless they're comical or unweapon-like (EX: Gaara's gourd or Kaname Chidori's fan)
  • Wigs and small accessories are encouraged and may help you rack up some bonus points.
  • An explanation of your costume (EX: Who's your character? Why you chose it? Etc.) will be needed. Also, skits are encouraged, but not required.

All entries must be received by October 20 This is to budget time for the event.

[x]-Art Show
Sewing and dressing up in your mom's clothes not really your thing? No need to show up empty handed! Show us how creative you can be by entering our Art Show.

ART SHOW RULES AND GUIDELINES

  • You must be a paid member of the DHS Japanese Club.
  • Your artwork must be Japanese themed or related. NOTE: Anime/manga/video game fanarts are allowed, but keep in mind that if a contest does occur, original arts are more likely to be voted higher.
  • Your art must be school appropriate. Just keep in mind the third rule of the club: keep your clothes on. This also means no graphic blood/violence. (A character holding a weapon or standing amongst a battlefield of dead soldiers who are drawn as black shadows are okay; a character standing with a head on the end of their weapon or standing on a battlefield of dead soldiers whose blood and innards are all over the place is not)
  • You can bring as many pieces as you want! Just don't overkill with the amount of stuff you bring; we only have so much space.

All entries must be received by October 20 This is to budget time for the event.

PS- I just now understood EXACTLY what you meant by saying 'overkill' Jordan. (FF roxxors....) <3

J-Club Social and Election Results
Information posted on forum by TheCosplayJunkie:

YAY! Twas a great success, the banquet/social and elections were! Here's the overview:

The social itself was pretty fun! Chris provided music, Alyssa provided games and TONS of awesome prizes along with ALL of the food, Ms. Sable brought cake, and various people dressed up. (DeeAnna, Sherrel, Tiffany, and I were all in some form of kimono.)

The food from Rice Garden was totally awesome! Sushi, rice, and noodles for all, along with chicken and such of course! Thank Alyssa for the food!!!

We played "Japanese Charades" where items such as Bruce Lee, Utada Hikaru, Land of the Rising Sun, Geisha, Teriyaki Chicken (though that one was a practice round), Chocobo, Final Fantasy, Origami, Cosplay, Jackie Chan, Nintendo, Mario, Luigi, and Kappa were acted out. (I think that was most of them...) Team 1 (Chris, Me, James, Jason, Brandon, and Lisa) won that round and got prizes.

Then came the big thing: ELECTIONS!!!

Your NEW Japanese Club President is... *drumroll*

ALYSSA

And your NEW Japanese Club Vice-President is... *crickets chirp*

JORDAN! (Me)

^.^ THANK YOU FOR THOSE WHO VOTED, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOUR VOTE WAS FOR ME OR NOT. Participation is a good thing!!!

We then had karaoke, were Jason, Chris, Hippie, Deysi, Tiffany, and a few others who escape my mind at the moment sang "HIT IN THE USA" by Beat Crusaders from the anime Beck.

Then it was over.

I'd like to say thank you personally to Ms. Sable and Alyssa who worked tirelessly to make the whole thing possible!

And I'd also like to extend fond farewells to our two seniors: President Hippie and Anime-nia Ambassador Chris (I love you both!). WE'LL MISS YOU!!! *glomps*

J-Club Banquet
Information posted on forum by TheCosplayJunkie:

We have finally decided on a way to spend the fund raising money: Our end of year bash!!! It will (tentatively) be held in the 9th grade cafeteria. It will be a catered/voluntarily brough food items event and will have music and door prizes. Girls can wear a kimono, and guys can wear a kimono/yukata with hakama! (Contact me if you want me to make you one; so long as you buy the materials, I have no problem in making one. Just find me as soon as possible!!!) Semi-formal dress is also okay. (From what I can understand, there really isn't a set dress code; ask Alyssa if you have questions on that!)

ANIME-NIA AMBASSADOR
Not under vote: Current Anime-nia Ambassador, Chris, has selected Fro to take his place next year. (There were no objections, so it's safe to say that this one is set in stone.)

James?

NOTE: VICE PRESIDENT AND PRESIDENT WILL BE ELECTED THIS YEAR! ALL OTHER POSITIONS WILL BE VOTED ON NEXT SCHOOL YEAR TO ACCOUNT FOR NEW MEMBERS!!!

ALSO: I kindly ask that, when campaigning, you don't post, "Well, so-and-so is horrible so you should vote for so-and-so. I, the Admin, will consider that bashing and will delete that post and suspend your account. Please only campaign for one person per position. I don't want a multiple of posts saying "I like so-and-so; vote for them." REAL and LEGITIMATE reasons will be much more helpful. If you campaign for one person per position, your arguments and reasoning will be much more legit.

EXCEPTION: The position of Art and Advertisement may require up to two people, as will Historian, so you may campaign for two people in those positions.

You may post in other campaign topics with QUESTIONS, if you want clarification on their ideas and goals for next year's club.

THANK YOU!!!

Japanese Gardens
Information posted on website by TheCosplayJunkie:

Our most recent activity was the trip to the Japanese Gardens in Ft. Worth. I, TheCosplayJunkie, did not attend this event. There are pictures located on the forums, however, my recent visit to the link did not render any images and ended up giving me the all-too-common 404 Error.

Talent Show Night

Edited by TheCosplayJunkie

There were four acts, one of which was late so, unfortunately, 'twas unable to win anything even though they so totally deserved better than my act.

Entries:

  • Deysi (-dee-) with an anime-styled skateboard deck, drawn and painted by her
  • Jordan (TheCosplayJunkie, ME!) singing The Real Folk Blues from Cowboy Bebop by Yoko Kanno
  • Alyssa (Ashfox) singing Hikari from Kingdom Hearts by Utada Hikaru
  • Brandon (ZodiacDragons), Jason (lonewolf69), Aaron, and Juan with a rehearsed fighting and weaponry video

Winners

  • Third Place - Jordan (TheCosplayJunkie) - Parasol
  • Second Place - Deysi (-dee-) - Japanese Scroll
  • First Place - Alyssa (Ashfox) - Japanese Tea Set
  • Many agreed that the video should have placed; Alyssa even tried giving them her first place prize!

The prizes themselves were also pretty awesome and Alyssa deserves some recognition for donating them!!!

The Cuisine Night was our first truly awesome event (in my opinion, anywho; ubt that may just be because I like food...)

Dishes included various rices, California rolls (both Toshio's authentic ones and Tom Thumb's bootlegged ones, both of which were good), and a plethora of Japanese style dishes. Alyssa (Ashfox) actually cooked hers, so I commend her for that.

Movie Night

We watched Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (raw, meaning: usdubbed and undubbed).

The greater majority of the refreshments provided by Anime-nia, courtesy of Chris' (Crimson Tears) paycheck... ^.^ Everyboy thank him!!!

Everyone enjoyed the movie and there were minimal problems!!!

There was much more participation in this event than was to be expected. From anime plushies to Buddha statues, everyone who contributed was welcomed with applause! Here are the items I can remember:
NOTE: I am typing this up 7 months after the fact, so forgive my lack of rememberance

  • Anime Plushies (Ein from Cowboy Bebop, Sesshoumaru and Miroku from Inuyasha, Vash and Kuroneko-sama from Trigun, Grunties from .hack)
  • Buudha statue
  • Japanese bowl (it may have a been a cup >.< My memory fails me...)
  • An AWESOME Street Fighter painting done by Venecia
  • Perhaps more stuff I've forgotten?
