She was an active member of the church, having taught the Loyal Daughters class for at least fifteen years, and attended church regularly as long as her health permitted. She graduated from Southern at Carbondale and the University of Illinois. She taught school for 31 years. This was her whole life, which she enjoyed very much. Her every wish was to help some boy or girl. Her favorite time of the year was spring. In her classes she always taught the poem "Trees" along with Shakespere's "Hamlet" and "Macbeth." One of her favorite Bible passages was the Twenty-third Psalm, and while ill, received 10 cards from friends containing this Psalm: The Lord is my Shepherd: I shall not want, He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters He restoreth my soul he leadeth me in the paths of the righteousness for His Name's sake Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil; for thou art with me. Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me Thou prepareth a table before me in the presence of mine enemies; Thou anointest my head with oil; My cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever
