Obituary for Everett Oxford
Ten long months but not forgotten, Everett Oxford the son of Wilmer and Harriet Oxford was born 8 Nov 1902 and departed this life on 4 May 1923 at the time of his death he was 21 years 5 months and 3 days of age. We loved him, Oh! how we loved him. But the angels loved him still; He has gone from us to heaven To do his Master's will. It was in the beautifaul sunshiny month of May, with all God's beauty of this world in its splendor when the grim reaper of death came and knocked at the door of our home and called from us our dear and only brother. As he lay upon his dying bed the lines of his once strong, brave face wrecked by pain and agony, showed no sign of impatience. He bore it all with patience beyond comparison. A few days before he departed this life, he welcomed God into his heart, and while his body was so frail, weak and helpless, his smiles were all that it took to convince us that God's love filled his heart. As we watched his life slowly but surely ebbing out, it seemed almost unbearable, but God knew best. God saw fit to call him home from labor to reward. We can only live and prepare to meet him. It is a comforting thought to know that he is sleeping in the arms of Jesus waiting for father, mother and "all the girls" as he always spoke of us. From child-hood he was posessed with a charming personality and as he grew into manhood, and self reliant, until he was a character admired by all who knew him. He always had an encouraging word for every body and was always so ready and willing to lend a helping hand. To know him was to love him. His funeral services were conducted by Rev. Tucker of Harrisburg, IL. After which all that was mortal our dear brother was laid to rest, and a host of sorrowing relatives and friends in the Adams cemetery. He leaves to mourn his departure a father, a mother, seven sisters and a host of other relatives and friends. God bless him, how we miss him.

Whether asleep or awake, death's impending doom is over we all, noiseless as well as ceaseless in his advance, in his wake he leaves his victim. Infancy, in its purity, youth in its beauty, and age in its honor finds no escape. So it is with our dear friend just in the bloom of pure womanhood. Inez was born 9 Feb 1906 departed this life 15 Apr 1927. She leaves a father, mother, five sisters and a host of relatives and friends to mourn her loss. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. W.E. EULOGY

Written by Lynn Vasquez, daughter and Jesse Edmondson, grandson.

Thank you for joining us in remembering and celebrating the life of our mother, Faye Patton Edmondson.

She was born in 1922 on the family farm outside of Cave In Rock, Illinois. no matter where life's journeys led her, the family farm in it's peaceful rural setting, was always "home". As the eldest of 4 children she helped nurture her two sisters and a brother and was expected to set an example for them to follow. She said her parents taught her that academic excellence, love of family and community and treating others with respect were important qualities to have in life. She was proud of the fact of being a straight "A" student and that she won the school-spelling contest every year. As a child she developed a love of history and reading that she sustained throughout her life. Although she learned how to cook, clean and sew she said her favorite activity was playing baseball. The Lone Star quilt on display was a childhood learning project she was so glad to finish because it just took too much time away from playing basehball.

Upon graduating from high school she attended nursing school at a Catholic teaching hospital in East Saint Louis, Illinois. When asked in later years why she was enrolled in a Catholic school (she was raised a Baptist) she said her father sent her there because it was so strict and it had an excellent program. While there, she was expected to attend daily mass. When, on numerous occasions, she reminded the Mother Superior that she was not a Catholic, she was told, "Come along Miss Patton, a little more prayer never hurt nayone." She began her nursing career in Dixon Illinois, and retired after more than twenty years of service with the state of Illinois.

She was married to Beauford Frayser Edmondson on March 11, 1946 in Dixon, Illinois, and remained his faithful loving companion until his death in 1994. When he was asked what attracted him to her, he responded, "I liked her proud, gentle nature and she had a great sense of humor (he also said he thought she was cute). She is the best friend anyone could ever have." The marriage produced four children, two having preceded her in death.

She accompanied her husband to Deming, New Mexico, in 1976. She always said that because she was raised on a farm, she was happiest in a small town atmosphere - she found all that in Deming. She loved the weather in the southwest and it's beautiful mountains but especially loved the warm, friendly people. She enjoyed lending her time and talents to the community and among her favorite causes were the Luna County Democratic Party and the Gem and Mineral Society.

During retirement she finally had time to pursue her love of history and family - genealogy. After years of study and research she succeeded in tracing and documenting the many generations of Pattons and Edmondsons. She embraced this with such a dedicated effort in order to leave a lasting leagacy for her children and grandchilden. She also started quilting, a skill she was thinkful her mother insisted she learn, because she said, "It will give me such a pleasure to know that after I'm gone my grandchildren will be kept warm at night beneath a quilt made by my own hands." The second quilt on display, a Pine Burr pattern, was a gift to one of her grandsons.

With her passing her family has lost a mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. We share with all of you the loss of a gentle good frined, And so to paraphrase Shakespeare:

"Goodnight, sweet mother, may a flight of angels sing thee to thy rest."

Peace and blessings to you all.
