vaults.  Together they reveal

and differentiate made or found

coverts:  intuition uncovers,

passion discriminates.  No

measuring or counting occur,

no maps or equations result.

At most discernment, at most

comparison, happen:  the planner's

left with those to go on.

One of them arranged a visit to a half

made house we lived in once

and apprehending both ways

(I am sum of them) finally

I know how near it is

to this house:  almost back to back.

There is this blazing, I

ride the rush of air up

dense as a spark's core.

rides.  The river booms narrow

and thrusting projectiles that can jam,

can crush; she is the nudger,

her moves are tiny - she plays lever,

carried easily.

                        Massed formations

display a vacancy (the planner's size)

in a forward rank

                             but she is skipping,

is nimble; humming the river widens,

the logs tame to an unasssembled raft.

Manhattan

I.

From a flat shining

seasilver platter

          towers

     towers towers

of sea-damped, sundried

          pilings

     pilings pilings

captures the ferry.
