Travis AFB, California Home Page
California is a unique and interesting state.  It's diversity extends from geography to culture.  California's geography ranges from desert to sub tropical beaches; from the pristine snow capped Sierra Mountains, to the fertile farming communities of the Central Valley and old-growth redwood forest of the Pacific Northwest.  The culture of this large state is equally diverse.  California is home to some of the nation's largest cities including Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Oakland.  Conversely, California has some areas where practically no one lives, like most of the nation's largest desert, the Mojave Desert.  There are also many rural farming communities like those of the fertile Central Valley.  The world famous Napa wineries are located here and very near to Travis AFB.  Besides these communities, there are many rustic mountain communities where people depend on tourism from skiing, fishing, and hunting as well as people traversing the mountains on there way to urban centers.  Without a doubt, California is an interesting  state.  We really enjoyed our tour a Travis AFB located in the Central Valley between San Francisco and Sacramento and we look forward to our next visit.  Enjoy our very own California Web Page.  Check out more pictures at YAHOO Photos!
Sacramento:  California's capital city!  Its located in California's Central Valley along the Sacramento River.  There are many interesting sites here, like this statue near Old Sacramento.  Old Sacramento takes us back to the California gold rush era.    More pictures of Old Sacramento are at our photo archive.
This is a photo of the Bay Bridge, one of the Bay Area's beautiful bridges.  I-80 crosses the San Francisco Bay here and links Oakland, Berkley and other Bay communities to San Francisco.  On the other side of town, the perhaps more famous Golden Gate Bridge stretches across giving passage to North Bay communities along highway 101, like Marin, and further East still, Napa.  You can use either bridge to get back to the East Bay communities, like Fairfield where Travis AFB is located.
Left:  Marine World Africa U.S.A. is a theme park attraction in the East Bay community of Vallejo.  It is awesome and it was one of Alex's favorite places to visit when we lived here.  I hear that they have added a bunch of rides since we were there last!  Unfortunately, one of the whales pictured here died about a year ago.

They have other animal attractions like Lions, tigers,, bears, elephants, and many other zoo-like attractions.  Definitely worth a visit if your stationed at Travis or just visiting the Bay Area.

Right:  Our car literally parked in a giant red wood forest in the northern part of California.  Simply amazing scenery!
Lots of cool stuff to see in So' Cal, too!  We got to visit Disney Land a few times while I was TDY to Edwards AFB California located near Lancaster California in the Mojave Desert about 2 hours East of Los Angeles. It is  pretty crowded, but we had lots of fun anyway!
