Analysis of Neville Brody

In my opinion, Neville Brody dares to challenge the conventions of graphic design, leading to revolutionary and unique works. However, a downside of daring to challenge the norm has caused some of his works to be criticised by more traditional artists.

Neville Brody's work may be ambigious at times. However, this was done deliberately as he feels that his part is to act as a catalyst for thought and questioning. A lot of his works are open ended statements, which leaves the person looking at his work to form their own conclusions.

Neville Brody himself believes now is a difficult time for graphic designers. The sole reason being that highly-skilled and professional designers are numerous in this age. However, many of them are caught up in the "how" and "what" of what they are doing. They don't ask "why".

He feels that it is not how clever you are with the latest technology, but the actual message you are putting across. How do you want people to feel about your work? Visual communication is an open-ended process.

An important statement made by him is that he is not interested in making his works his legacy. Instead, he rather leave behind a thought process.
