GAME DAY

                                         CLEVELAND @  DETROIT

Game # 3 - - - Pre-Season

Joey Harrington has thrown the football 36 times and has completed 18 for 153 Yards and 1 TD that is pretty good for limited action. Joey will more than likely only see a series if any action this week. He is showing much improvement from last season. Joey is the # 1 guy in Detroit. Cleveland comes in with their QB situation resolved as Holcomb is their new starter for 2003-2004 season. I would agree he has earned the job with his performance thus far in the pre-season. Some may wonder why Mike McMahon isn't the starter. His numbers this pre-season show he's more than capable. He is 16/35 for 158 and a Touchdown. The good news is our Lions have a solid backup. Mike can not only throw as he has ran for 43 yards on 6 carries. McMahon might not get as much time this week, as he has in the previous weeks. Mariucci will apparently throw Ty Detmer  in for most of the game.

Luke Staley has been pretty good for the running game through two weeks. It is only the pre-season, but you have to establish yourself as an offensive threat early. Last week in Cincinnati the Lions trailed for the most part. Their offence wasn't as productive as they were in week 1, but on the other side of things their defense looks good.  With Dre Bly, Wali Rainer, and Earl Holmes makes this defencea little scary. The Lions have  a fairly good secondary and now with two new linebackers to the mix help a lot against the run, and the pass rush. They have made their presence felt so far this pre-season.

Charles Rogers made his first appearance last week nabbing two catches for 18 yards. Charles I hope will be a major threat this season. Will he play a lot this week, I have no clue. I would say maybe. Charles bring speed to the WR position. My prediction is he plays about a Quarter catches 3-4 balls and score the Lions opening TD.

This game will feature a lot of younger players or older Vet's who are back ups. You won't see many starters for either team play. You may only see 3 or 4 for each team as Coach Steve and Coach Butch have already decided to who has sealed what position. Earl Holmes is playing his former team from last season, so I'm sure he will like to get to Holcomb, Couch or who ever is in at QB for Cleveland. This game won't be high scoring. My prediction 16-9 Detroit.
