| We returned to travelled roads, and then to the freeway, where I romped on it
again, the car pulling straight and smooth (and fast!) The performance of
the car is certainly more than adequate, and I suspect that once the rest of the
car was brought up to snuff, a simple carb change coupled with some judicious
tuning could really turn this thing into a rocketship--but civilized, not an
animal.
Upon returning home, I shut the car off and it quit right away, fans spinning merrily until the radiator cooled off. The car would easily start right back up again. So, there you have it. This is basically exactly the kind of Pantera that I was looking for when I was in the market--sadly, there were no cars of this type available and I wound up buying the worst rustbucket in the world. This car is definitely what you would call a driver rather than a show car or a trailer queen or an open-track car. |
| Strengths:
Fantastic motor (of only partially known lineage) Rock-solid chassis with virtually no rust Great gearbox (probably hasnt been safety-wired however, and may be leaking) Decent stock brakes Good glass 10-inch Campys with new rear tires Handbrake functional Straight body with no dents worth mentioning All trim pieces straight and true Excellent aftermarket sucker fans Comes with spare (original) engine, exhaust and many other parts |
| Weaknesses:
Fair paint, showing its age and bearing a few very noticeable scratches Steering rack has unknown issues Front ball joints worn Stock suspension bushings totally shot (new bushings come with the car) One rear axle worn (new axle/bearing comes with car, and may be fixed before sale) Front tires from the Paleolithic age, extensively worn and dry-rotted Interior showing heavy wear, including totally destroyed stock steering wheel Headliner falling down Headlight switch on the way out Window doesnt work Original window switches not forecast to live much longer Stock radiator is rather suspect No A/C; compressor not installed (comes with the car) Heater not hooked up Grungy engine bay, evidence of gearbox leaking |
