I would introduce you to Shadow Keeper, the keeper of the stables, and tour guide, but he's missing right now. Mentioned something about "important business", and then galloped off. So I'm left to give you the unofficial tour. Oh, who am I? I'm Tracey, owner of these stables. I hope Shadow comes back soon. He's much better at the tours than I am, but here goes!
To your right is the Show Barn, the Infirmary is to your left, and the Armory is straight ahead. The Show Barn has images and information on this years show string, and some models that are not showing but have no where else to be housed right now. I haven't built the main barn yet. The infirmary is where the broken down horses go to get reborn. I currently have four waiting to be released. Pictures of their progress will be posted there shortly, or whenever I get around to working on them. The Armory is where the horses get outfitted for their medieval re-enactments, or will be when I finally learn how to do this stuff.
I started collecting models with my first Breyer, the Cips model, back in the 1980's. My Mom gave the model to me for Christmas the year he came out. Unfortunately, he has since been broken. Each year, Mom would try to get me something horse related for my birthday or Christmas. Since I was still a kid, I would sometimes get My Little Ponies, which I loved at the time, and ended up amassing almost 50. I also got some other toy horses, the type with the hard plastic body and nylon mane and tail. It wasn't until the about 1989 or so that I stopped playing with the horses and started to collect them. By the time I was 13 I had almost 30 Breyers, including all scales (Traditionals, Classics, Little Bits and Stable Mates).
I attended my first model horse show in 1992 or 1993, the West Coast Model Horse Collectors Jamboree, which is now retired. The last show was held this last October, and it was a blast! I was hooked after that first show. I love being around other people who are as weird as I am. I love looking at all the other pretty ponies, and showing mine off. Due to money and time constraints the Jamboree has been the only show I have not been able to attend many shows. I've recently managed to make it to a few others shows besides the Jamboree, and even held one of my own last year.
I created Desert Moon Stables in the late 1990's. I used the desert that I live in as part of the name. Moon comes from my love of the moon. It's not a very big stable, especially compared to those who have thousands of models. I currently house just under 100, not including any of the broken models. Most of the residents of the stable are in no condition to show, since they've been played with to hard, but I love and treasure them enough that I don't want to sell or customize them.
We now have 4 top 5's from the Region 2 Championshps!! Check it out!
The Wanderer, one of the stars of the stable, now has his own page. Check out his wanderings!
