Desertmartin is a small village of about 260 inhabitants, lying close to the centre of Northern Ireland. It nestles in the peaceful rural setting of the foothills of Slieve Gallion, in the Sperrin Mountains. To the east, the land descends into the Moyola River Valley and on to Lough Neagh. The area is an agricultural one, the nearest large town being Magherafelt, about 3 miles to the east.
