Waiting For Another Train
Oh no it's raining
the ink will run down my back
The message is gaining
I hold my ear to the track.
Anguished by haunting visions of
a kindred soul in the rain
Consumed by the dreaming
waiting for another train

But you know he's glowing (glowing glowing)
lost in shadows in the light
Need is all that's showing (showing showing)
wherever our kind walk the night
We never sleep, we never blink
We only blend in

Reclined on their souls with vacant smiles
we are but targets in their eyes
I'm hoping he's quick enough to dance
he launches into his disguise
They wink and say listen to me kid
join while it's easy to agree
Come in son the water's fine
pay later but for now it's free

But you know he's glowing (glowing glowing)
consorting demons in the night
Destiny in knowing (knowing knowing)
forever almost in sight
Hopping trains from town to town
The track never ends

The masses are wandering
over a sign of the times
And their lines are pondering
whether to kill or just be kind
The mimes mock his fade into the herd
resistance issues from his lips
I need so to hold the hounds at bay
scared he's already in their grip

Still he fights to keep that spark
that only rain cannot abide
Mumbling something 'bout a ticket
gonna finish out his ride

And you know he's glowing (glowing glowing)
as his sure footing slips away
What's the use in knowing (knowing knowing)
if every path leads you astray?
If you see him hold him (hold him hold him)
your kindred soul in the rain
Glance away and lose him (lose him lose him)
then who'd internalize our pain?
Then in the blink of your mind's eye
He's driving the train

Below, is a song I wrote back in 1978.
While I can't read it without hearing the music in my head, you don't have that luxury.  But I like to think the lyrics stand on their own, as a poem-- just ignore the back-up vocal words in parentheses.  Hope you like it!
Playing among the stars
on a light year's meandering path,
wandering into a moment's curiosity,
I tune in to prismatic echos
rebounding from who knows when?

Hopping from one reality to another
I value without judgement.
I bask in the subtleties of spectrums
trying on memories past and future,
pondering which ones to wear.

Internalizing the grace of ease,
I see all corners of my mind.
Like a blind man's sudden vision,
All is awesome to behold.

When the dream is what is real
nothing can let you down.
Be with me in this sense,
and we can all be home at last.
