This is Jae and I in front of my brother's duplex in the Quarter, in Jan. of '82, four months after we met. We'd moved from Houston to New Orleans, and got started with the process of opening a restaurant in the French Quarter, called Cafe Bon Temps (Good Times) at 538 St. Louis st.
This is Jae and I three years ago, in our apt. in Palm Springs.
Alex left, Jae in back, and me on the phone. On the patio of the palm Springs apt. New Years Eve 2000. We were all, obviously very toasted.
Jae and I have had four different guys live with us over the years. In varying degrees, depending on them, they are included as part of our unit, and loved as much, for the time they are with us, and thought of fondly forever. Alex, on the patio with Jae, for brunch, was the last of the four. Alex and I arriving at White Party, Palm Springs. He was twenty, and moved with us when we bought our house here in Palm Desert. He went back home a little over a year ago.
JAE, THEN AND NOW
Left, is a face shot of Jae, taken from the picture below, which is of he and his soon to be wife, Jane. Taken in 1964, he was 21. Below this is a shot of Jae with a dance student, in our dance studio in San Diego, in 1987, then with a good friend in 2004 here in Palm Springs. To the right, is another shot of dancing, with a dear friend, in 1998 -- our 2nd time to live in San Diego-- and a face shot above from the same time.
On the left is Peder. Peder is a Swedish national. He lived with us for a little over a year in San Diego ('87-'88) until he turned 21, and had to go back to Sweden for compulsory military service. He was the first to live with us, and still the most special to us. We still love him, and always will. On the right, is Jim. He joined us not too long after Peder left. Jim was a fun person, but we didn't develop the kind of emotional attachment that we had with Peder or Alex. I can't find a picture of Brennan. He lived with us for only about six months in Denver, in '95.
And Me. It's just all about me me me.
The Other Lovers
In fourth grade, '68-'69, in Afton, Oklahoma--a little hell on earth of it's own. My Senior picture, '77-'78, League City, Texas.
Xmas time, La Porte, Texas, 1974, so I was 14. From left: me, next oldest brother Sherwood, my sister Roberta, my Mom Verona, and my Step-dad Carl. My oldest brother, Ryan, was in Germany at the time, and my biological father, John, was in Louisiana As far as I'm concerned, Carl was my father.
In the party room of my best friend's dad's place in Cleveland, Texas, in '76. Yes, those are 8-tracks on the shelf, and that's a big bud of our own home-grown weed in my hand.
A couple of pics of a cloudy day at Stewart Beach, Galveston, '77. Carl on the right in both pics, and my oldest brother leaning into his car, with his wife standing behind him.
I decided to cut my hair. So, the day before I did the deed, I went to my best friends house and told him to take a picture.
1980, in the dressing room trailer with Ronnie James Dio, lead singer at the time for Black Sabbath at an outdoor concert in Houston. (I bent my knees, and he's still that short) A friend of mine, Larry, was a rock photographer, and got backstage passes to all the best concerts. Yes, that is a Rocky Horror Picture Show tee shirt I have on. The day of this picture, I met Alice Cooper at his hotel before the daytime concert, and got his autograph on an awesome pic Larry had taken of him previously. I also met Buck Darhma of Blue Oyster Cult that day. He was walking around in cut-offs between the trailers strumming a six string guitar. I didn't recognize him until Larry introduced us later.
