Day 4: Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square:
Day 4 -- Thursday -- 12/12/02 -
              Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square:
As I said in the first day I wanted to take the open busses guided tour -- but only on the Third day did I find when they start -- at Piccadilly Circus. The bus tour is somewhat expansive -- 14, but it includes a boat ride on the Thames which makes it worthwhile. The tour takes about 2 hours, and shows the highlights of the City and Westminster areas. I sat on the second floor of the open bus -- it's better to see things from above -- and you can see more that way: for example -- when the bus goes near Buckingham palace -- you can see above the walls into the gardens of the palace. Yet its was VERY COLD on the second floor of the open buss. Luckily the boat ride was in a closed boat -- with walls and roof made of glass -- so you can see everything and remain warm.
I ended the bus tour where I started it -- at Piccadilly circus and walked from there to Leicester Square. On the way I saw the Trocadero Centre which is in fact just a big video arcade -- not worth staying in. And from there I went along Charing Cross road to Oxford street -- while looking at the little streets on the left -- China Town and the Soho.
Next to Tottenham Court Road Tube on Charing Cross Road and Manette St. is
*** Foyles --the biggest bookshop in London. Hours can be spent just in it:
The first floor is fiction, science fiction, travel books, and children book. In the basement are garden books and cook books -- and there are three more floors with everything you might want.
