Day 5:  Southwark
Day 5 -- Friday -- 13/12/02 -
            Southwark:
I started my day at The Tower Hill Tube from which I went to the Tower Bridge, and saw
* The Tower Bridge Experience -- which was nice. It explains why this particular shape of a bridge was chosen, and why this plan was chosen over the other plans (and from the looks of the other plans -- It was a good thing to do). The exhibition is on the top walkway of the bridge - but as it was a cloudy day - there was no view at all. Then the exhibition continues in the engine room which is nice and explains how the bridge works (Altogether about an hour).
From there I went along the river to the
* HMS Belfast, which served in the Second World War, and in the Cold War, and shows how the soldiers lived on the ship at the time (A bit expansive -- but worthwhile -- about two hours).
Then I went to
** The London Dungeon -- which is very expensive but is a real fun thing to do. Now they have a special exhibition of "Wicked Women" -- the last of which is Ann Robson from "The Weakest Link".
From London Bridge Tube I took the Victoria Line to Southwark Tube for the Tate Modern Museum. The Tube stations are modern and look very "Space Age".
Dinner I ate in the 7th floor of the
** Tate Modern Museum -- a restaurant which is a bit expansive, but has a great vies of the city, and is right across from St. Pauls Church, and thus having a great view of the church which is lit at night.
I didn't have much time to look at the museum (see Day 8) because I wanted to take a guided tour appropriate to the date -- Friday the 13th -- so I took one of the London Walk's Tour --
*** The Jack the Ripper Tour -- which started at 19:00 at the Tower Hill Tube station, and for two hours took us along the city to see all the sites of the murders, while the guide explained who he thought was the murderer among the various suspects.
