Monique
Norington: Biography
A
Commitment to Change
Monique has spent the past year effectively
advocating on behalf of students and their concerns. Since she became a member of the DePaul Student Government
Association in 2004, she has diligently worked to create new opportunities,
sponsor events, develop synergies, and bring
awareness to the heart of the issues with her constituents.
Her ideal goal of creating programs that will benefit the
overall good of the DePaul community has transcended into a
year of phenomenal accomplishments that has assisted in the
growth and development of DePaul students.
Monique is recognized by her peers, faculty and staff as a
leader, innovator and creative thinker who has the ability to
bring all diverse groups together in an attempt to live out
the mission of St. Vincent DePaul.
Monique is also a junior, pursuing a BA/MA in Organizational
Communications and Community Service Studies in the College of
Liberal Arts and Sciences.
In addition to her current Senator position, Monique
was also the President for the Alpha Kappa Psi Zeta Pledge
Class in 2004 and is the current Professional Committee Chair
for Alpha Kappa Psi Business Fraternity.
Monique currently serves as a member of the SNL Dean's
Student Advisory Board and the search committee for the AVP
for Academic Affairs. She
is also a Junior Counselor Intern for the Undergraduate Office
of Admissions and Research Assistant.
Outside of DePaul, she has been and is actively involved in
other volunteer opportunities such as a previous G.E.D. tutor
for the AUL and President of NACEE (National Association of
Christian Entrepreneurs and Executives) as well as President
of the Chicago Hummingbirds.
Monique considers herself to be a person who pursues excellence
in all that she does, while striving to maintain a
balanced lifestyle. Her
goal is to graduate with her Bachelors and Masters in
Communications and continue with her dream of becoming an
entrepreneur.
Some of her pastimes are reading, writing, working on her
first book, playing golf, tennis, and of course shopping and
volunteering with disadvantaged youth and women.
Monique’s decision to run for President came as a result of
her passion to unify the Student Government body, promote
diversity among students, and raise awareness of SGA’s
responsibility to serve, advocate, and promote on behalf of
student organizations and the general student body.
"We need to create a synergy between SGA, staff,
faculty, the two DePaul campuses, and the DePaul community in
order to promote change and advocacy," stated Monique.
"We will work to change the stereotypes about SGA and bring
about a change for the greater good of the University."
