Santiago Calatrava, London Voted as the best exhibition of the year by the Observer Magazine, the 1992 Calatrava exhibition launched the Architecture at the RIBA. It was the most successful exhibition ever held at the RIBA and generated an enormous amount of public and professional interest in the work of this remarkable Spanish architect, Santiago Calatrava. Kisho Kurokawa Dramatic effects for this exhibition were inspired by glossy red Japanese lacquer screens and narrow streets. Fibre optic lights created special effects which highlighted specific areas in the exhibition. Large scale models suspended from the ceiling and on the floor transformed the spaces. The floor was lined with drawings of the projects to make this a truly 3 dimensional experience. Emerging Japanese Architects The first exhibition at the RIBA to use CDROMs this exhibition brought the work of 6 emerging young architects from Japan to Britain. The virtual show combined interactive and non interactive presentations on large and small screens. The experience was like walking into a virtual reality city and being taken through some its pleasure houses and buildings. |
