The Palace - October 5th 2001 |

I can't think of a more angry, adrenaline filled combination that Henry Rollins (with or without band) and The Mark of Cain. Second time for me seeing them live, this time I was prepared a little better, I knew a few of the songs, and I braved the mosh.
It was obvious most of the crowd were there to see Rollins alone, it was relatively easy to be front and center in the mosh for TMOC, but the people with us at the front were true Mark fans.
The set was flawlessly delivered, and the crowd responded with a pretty controlled mosh, one of the best I have been involved in (although there are always the dickheads who will use and violent means necessary to get through the tight front two rows of fans). I braved bringing my camera in (as you can see below!) and got some pretty good photos of the guys. |

The Corner Hotel - July 21st 2001 |

My brother has been a huge fan of TMOC for a long time. I must confess to something terrible to start of with, I didn't like them based on the album cover and a few bars of music I heard once. I would NEVER let him bring the CD in the car on trips...
Okay, now I am a convert, they will never be my favorite band but they do put on a good live show, and I really like quite a few of their new songs. If only I could remember what a few of them were called, I guess I will just have to listen to the album some time soon.
Anyone who has been watching the Australian Big Brother should have heard one of their older songs "Contender". It was played throught the eviction shows constantly, and I think it evenmade the soundtrack album which is pretty good! I am not that big a fan of the show to spend money on merchandise.
In spite of the few morons who appeared intent on ruining the show for everyone, I had a good time (why on earth would you drink so much that there is no chance of remembering what a good show it actually was? Oh well... I met a number of strange people that night... who is going to believe that a very very drunk 50 year old man and his wife are actually friends with the band and that they are going to be at their apartment afterwards? I think not... I am not that silly sorry if you weirdos are reading this *grin*
With two support acts, I was expecting the Mark of Cain set to be pretty short, but was pleasantly surprised when we didn't get out of there til almost 1am.
I guess for me the highlights were the songs I actually knew, ie Contender and Retaliate, but the whole show was good from start to finish. Even John Scott's somewhat dubious jokes... I didn't know anyone did Michael Jackson jokes anymore *grin* must be a South Australian thing! |
