KASSIE
Kassara Orient Pearl ADX found her way to us in October 1992. She had been thrown away in a rubbish bag and a small child bought her to my door.   She fitted in the palm of my hand and barely had her eyes open.   A quick trip to the vet got all the necessary paraphenalia to start hand rearing.  She quickly bonded to my husband and became a 'daddy's girl".   We had an elderly Cairn Terrier (Chipper) at that time who was very possessive of me and was reluctant to let this new addition get close to his mother.

Kassie appeared to have a lot of stiffness in her hips as she grew and we were told that she probably would require removal of the ball joints in her hips when she was older.

After acquiring
Kayla and commencing agility I queried my vet as to Kassies ability to undertake agility training.  She is only a small dog and providing she would be in the "mini" class we were given the all clear.

Kassie was aged 6.5 years when she started agility.  Within two years she attained her ADX title (Agility Dog Excellent) has won the club trophy for the Mini with the most clear rounds, three years in a row, and has had several placings in Starters, Novice and Intermediate.

She will never be in the winners circle as she will never be able to beat a Border Collie or a German Shepherd, but she gives it her all and I am very proud of what she has achieved.

In 2002 we are going for our ADX Advanced title.  She is now 9 years old, but still agile and still loving agility.    Her hip problem is totally resolved due to the agility training and strengthening of her muscles.  My only regret is that I did not start agility with her earlier in her life.

August 2002.   It is with the utmost sadness that I relate that Kassie is no longer with us. In the early hours of 24.8.02 I heard her get off the bed and give a single yap.  Thinking she wanted out for potty I got up to find her unable to move her body from the waist down.  She was taken to emergency who gave a diagnosis of ? stroke ? ruptured disk.  Her neurological signs however pointed to a stroke.  Medication was given to make her comfortable until I could get her to my own vet.  At 8.30am I attended my vet who hospitalised Kassie for the day to run various tests.   A ruptured disk was ruled out and it was discovered that she had haemorrhaged into her spinal colum more than like caused by either a embollus or an aneurysm.

Nothing could be done to make my girl well again and surrounded by those she loved she quietly slipped away to joinYani and the Rainbow Bridge.

She will be sorely missed.... our little Daddy's Girl who thought she was a German Shephered.
